One-on-one or duet

The short answer

What is a private Pilates session?

A private Pilates session is a 60-minute class with one instructor and one client, or two clients in a duet (never more than two), using classical apparatus like the Cadillac, Reformer and Ladder Barrel. At Inspire Pilates Studio in Lowell and Chelmsford, MA, each session is planned around your body, goals and limits, so you never have to guess or keep up with a group.
  • One-on-one sessions, or duet sessions for two people
  • Cadillac, Reformer and Ladder Barrel in the studio
  • Studios at 13 Hurd Street, Lowell, and 51 Middlesex Street, Chelmsford
  • 60-minute sessions, at most 2 clients per instructor
  • Trial class $30, single session $50

Who it is for

For people who want attention, not a crowd

Private sessions fit almost any starting point, because the session adapts to you instead of the other way around. These are some of the people who book them most.

  • Complete beginners

If you have never touched a Reformer, a private session is the calmest way to learn. You get time to understand each spring, strap and position before adding challenge.

  • People with a sensitive back, neck or joints

Tell us what bothers you and we choose positions and ranges that feel comfortable. If you are working with a doctor or physical therapist, bring their guidance and we follow it.

  • Group class regulars who want more

Already know Pilates? Private time lets you refine form, work on one side that feels weaker, and try apparatus like the Cadillac and Ladder Barrel that big classes rarely use.

  • Friends, couples and family (duet)

A duet session is two people sharing one instructor. It is a good way to train with someone you like while still getting close, hands-on attention.

  • Busy schedules

Sessions are by appointment between 7 AM and 8 PM on weekdays and Saturday mornings, so you are not tied to a fixed class grid. You book a time that works for your week.

  • People coming back after a break

Returning after a pregnancy, a long pause or a recovery period? We start where you are today and build from there, following any guidance from your doctor.

Step by step

What happens in a private session

Every session follows the same calm rhythm, even though the exercises change as you progress.

What to expect as a new client
  1. Step 01

    Check in and talk

We start with a few minutes on how you feel today: energy, any soreness, anything new since the last session. On your first visit we also talk about your goals, routine, injuries and surgeries.

  2. Step 02

    Warm up and breathe

Breathing and gentle mobility wake up the spine, hips and shoulders. This is where you learn to connect breath with movement, the base of every Pilates exercise.

  3. Step 03

    Work on the apparatus

Depending on your plan, we move between the Reformer, the Cadillac and the Ladder Barrel. Springs are set for your body, and your instructor watches alignment the whole time.

  4. Step 04

Close and plan the next step

We finish with stretching and a short recap. You leave knowing what you worked on and what comes next, so each session builds on the last.

Classical apparatus

Each piece of equipment offers a different kind of support and challenge. In a private session we use the one that makes sense for you that day.

Why private works

A session that adjusts as you move

In a group class the instructor has to teach to the middle of the room. In a private session there is no middle: the plan is yours. If an exercise feels wrong for your shoulder, we change it on the spot. If something feels easy, we add a spring or a new variation. That constant adjustment is the main reason people choose private Pilates.

The apparatus makes this possible. The Reformer uses springs that can support you or challenge you, depending on how they are set. The Cadillac, also called the trapeze table, offers bars, straps and springs above and around you, which helps with stretching and with learning to move the spine with control. The Ladder Barrel is great for opening the hips, the back and the side body.

Duet sessions keep most of that attention while you share the time with one other person. Many clients book duets with a partner, a friend or a family member. The instructor still sets springs and corrects form for each of you, so both people work at their own level.

Pilates is not a quick fix, and we will not promise one. What private sessions offer is consistent, careful practice. Over time, many clients tell us they feel more aware of their posture, more mobile and more in control of how they move in daily life. Your progress is your own, and we track it with you session by session.

Questions

Private & Duet Pilates: common questions

Anything else? Send us a message and we will answer personally.

Ask us directly
How is private Pilates different from a group class?

In a private session the instructor works only with you, or with you and one other person in a duet. Exercises, spring settings and pace are chosen for your body, and form is corrected in real time instead of once in a while.

Is private Pilates good for beginners?

Yes. It is one of the easiest ways to start, because you learn each piece of equipment step by step. No experience or special fitness level is needed.

What is a duet session?

A duet is a session for two people with one instructor. It works well for friends, couples or family members who want to train together while still getting close attention.

How often should I book?

Many clients come once or twice a week, but it depends on your goals, schedule and how your body responds. We talk about a rhythm that fits you after your first sessions.

Which studio should I choose, Lowell or Chelmsford?

Pick the one closest to your home or work. The Lowell studio is at 13 Hurd Street, downtown. The Chelmsford studio is at 51 Middlesex Street, Suite A109, inside CrossFit Liberator.

How much does a private session cost?

Your trial class is $30 and a single session is $50. Sessions last 60 minutes. We also offer monthly plans for 1, 2 or 3 sessions a week; ask us for current rates. We accept credit card, Zelle and check.

How many people are in a session?

Never more than two. Each instructor works with one client in a private session, or two clients in a duet, for the full 60 minutes.

Can I do Pilates with back pain or after an injury?

Many people do, with the right adjustments. Tell us about your history before the first session, and follow the guidance of your doctor or physical therapist. Pilates sessions here are exercise, not medical treatment.
